This Year's Model Updates:

For 2006, the MX-5 gets its first top-to-bottom redesign since its launch in 1989. The roadster gains a roomier cockpit but still tips the scales at under 2,500 pounds. Beneath the hood, the MX-5 benefits from an all-new 170-horsepower, 2.0-liter engine. Side-impact airbags and ABS are now standard across all trims.

Pros:
  • Huge fun factor, precise steering and handling, low base price, economical to operate.
Cons:
  • A few questionable interior plastics, still snug for large adults.

Very questionable plastics in interior. Have experienced annoying rattling clicking noise on console. Absolutely no help from Mazda with problem. While very fun to drive, the annoying rattle takes enjoyment out.

We bought our MX5 in Phoenix and promptly put on 4000 miles touring National Parks in AZ, Utah, Calif. and OR. Then after a winter break we did another 8000 through Calif. NV., Utah, CO., S. D., WY, Montana, Alberta, B.C., Yukon and finally home to Alaska. Ninety five percent with the top down (made ultra easy with the slick one arm set-up) and 85 % on back mountain roads. The handling is absolutely unbelievable! Never wanted for power. Enough trunk space for two months worth of personal gear, sleeping bags and tent. Ive recently driven an 04 Jag, an 02 Z3 and an 03 SLK; I would not even consider a straight-up trade.

Wow! Like a motorbike with four wheels. I love this car! I bought a new Fiat Spider in 1980 because I almost froze riding home from the mountains at Banff to Calgary at night. This Miata is to replace the Fiat while I rebuild it. I may never rebuild the Fiat because this Miata is sooo much better in all ways (except maybe the way the cupholder sticks you in the leg). What a blast! The gas mileage is even fairly good at over 30 mpg. I have found the long way home or to where I am going regardless of the cost of gas here in Canada. This roadster is really sooo much better than my Fiat Spider ever was.

  • Pure Joy - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

My first Mazda and first MX-5 and I have never had more fun in a car. Bought in winter to be able to negotiate on price and now are just enjoying the top down driving that is a pure pleasure. I am 65 so fitting was a concern but it is pleasantly snug all around and makes you feel like you are part of the car. Handling and sensitivity is sensory and requires the lightest touch. Couldnt ask for a better more fun car.

Whoever designed the car had a previous Mazda. Should have left the turbocharger. Doesnt have the kick that my Mazdaspeed had. Cruise control and extra leg room really made a good road trip car. Really good around vehicle.

I bought my car just 9 days ago, and drove it from Charleston to New Orleans on the third day. I love it. It handled nicely in the morning rain on the East coast, and it was so much fun coming across the panhandle in the sun in the afternoon. As the sun went down, I ran the heat, and I was comfortable. This is a very responsive vehicle, a joy to drive. The 6 speed manual feels totally natural on this car, and it makes for a fun drive. The seat wraps around you, so it is as though you are one with your car. If you are looking for a fun, sporty car, you will not go wrong with this car!

  • The best Miata yet! - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

So much fun to drive and one of the best cars with the top down. Great looks inside and out. Comfy seats and bigger than the previous Miatas. Race car steering, race car transmission and race car suspension. Suspension turns in sharp while the wheels stick like super glue. Flick the steering wheel and you dive into the apex with barely any turns on the wheel and the whole car talks to you. Great exhaust note. Great gas mileage. I owned a Evo 8 and currently own a 350Z and a Lotus Elise an this is probably the best deal when it comes to handling. And has become my new weekend car and ever daily driver.

I just purchased this sportscar two days ago and I love it. I owned an old 1600 Honda roadstar in college and its great to be back in one again. I love it and hope to continue driving it for the next 5-10 years. Im a young and very attractive professional and I dont know too much about sportscars, but Ive have received numerous compliments on the street and on the highway in this car and the ride with the top down is fantastic! I live in southern california the highway commute is a blast! I wish someone had told me about Miata years ago!
